About the Studio

Aaron Stevens' introduction to woodworking was far from typical. His father—a licensed biomechanical engineer who spent 33 years in corporate America at Hewlett Packard’s Medical Division—opened the family woodworking business in 2006. He brought a highly scientific, analytical perspective to the craft, operating not as a standard carpenter, but as a scientific problem-solver in the shop.

Aaron inherited this exact rigor, learning early on that exceptional woodworking is as much about structural physics and precise engineering as it is about aesthetic appreciation.

While Aaron spent his youth learning the machinery of the family shop, his true transition into a master artisan took root in 2015. Since then, he has knuckled down to develop a professional skill level defined by uncompromising precision. Rather than operating a mass-production engine or competing with off-the-shelf furniture makers, Aaron chooses to work alone. He deliberately limits his workload to fewer, better projects that demand his full focus and advanced technical capabilities. Every commission is treated as a completely original, one-and-done project—never built with the mere hope to sell, and never repeated.

While many in the industry use the word "custom" to describe standard cabinetry, Aaron prefers the word "bespoke" to represent true, high-end customization. Stevens Works in Wood thrives on the "wild jobs" and engineering complications that other contractors simply cannot resolve. Whether vacuum-pressing exotic veneers onto complex curved cabinetry, integrating seamless LED lighting into architectural built-ins, or engineering massive arched French doors from scratch, Aaron is hungry for complex spatial challenges. Because execution is everything, we manage the entire process in-house—from the initial hand-drawn drafting to the final, full-service on-site installation, solving electrical and structural quirks on the spot.

We construct our pieces to be strictly heirloom quality. This means we mathematically account for the natural expansion and contraction of wood grain, utilizing precise frame-and-panel engineering so that joinery never fails over time. Every bespoke table, door, and built-in that leaves our Pittsburgh shop is built with a singular, quiet expectation: it is designed to outlive the person who commissioned it, remaining a functional work of art for generations.

Whether you're navigating an architectural complication or seeking uncompromising, bespoke woodwork, let's start the drafting process. We'd love to hear from you.
